Title: Wexford Hanrahans and Connections
In 1923, Wexford printer and GAA enthusiast Walter Hanrahan died at the early age of 56. As well as his obituary, the People newspaper carried a potted history of his family, recalling “the fact that he belonged to a remarkable stock”.
This presentation explores that remarkable stock, its Wexford locations, and its connections. 1798 and 1916 feature. It looks at the life and civic contributions of teacher, poet and writer PR Hanrahan. Three Rev. Hanrahans emerge: a Jesuit who managed finances for a New York college, a lay parish priest in Australia, and a friar who was President of St. Isidore’s College in Rome before sailing to mission fields in Australia.
An interesting evening is assured.
