Second Level Essay Competition 2012

To encourage an interest in, and the study of Local History, Wexford Historical Society is continuing the essay competition for second level students – 2011/12 : Transition Year, 5th Year and 6th Year.

Prizes will be awarded for the best history essay(s) on a subject of local interest or significance. Prizes:€150, €100, €50.
Essays should be from 1200 to 1500 wds. in length and should be submitted in typed format.
Reference to several sources, and especially primary sources, is encouraged. Bibliography, and a full list of sources consulted, should appear at the end of the essay.
Illustrations (maps, photographs, etc.) may be used where appropriate in which case a list, with subject and source, should be included.
Entries should be authenticated by the history teacher as being, to the best of her/his knowledge, the work of named student.

Essays submitted for this competition may also be considered for submission as a research study for the Leaving Certificate History Examination.
The essays will be judged by a panel nominated by the Chairman of the Wexford Historical Society and made up of specialists in Local History Studies.
