The winners of the 2009 Wexford Historical Society competition was,
1st prize ,Louise Bolger for her essay 'Commodore John Barry'
2nd prize .Grainne Keeling for her essey ' Dr Tom's Legacy'
3rd., prize Gemma Coughlan for ' Foundation of a Masterpiece'.
ESSAY COMPETITION 2010
To encourage an interest in, and the study of Local History, Wexford Historical Society is initiating an essay competition for second level students - 2009/10
Prizes will be awarded for the best history essay(s) on a subject of local interest or significance. Prizes:€150, €100, €50.
Essays should be from 1200 to 1500 wds. in length and should be submitted in typed format.
Reference to several sources, and especially primary sources, is encouraged. Bibliography, and a full list of sources consulted, should appear at the end of the essay.
Illustrations (maps, photographs, etc.) may be used where appropriate in which case a list, with subject and source, should be included.
Entries should be authenticated by the history teacher as being, to the best of her/his knowledge, the work of named student.
Entry form may be acquired through the school, and is also available on the Wexford Historical Society Website www.wexfordhistoricalsociety.com
Essays submitted for this competition may also be considered for submission as a research study for the Leaving Certificate History Examination.
The essays will be judged by a panel nominated by the Chairman of the Wexford Historical Society and made up of specialists in Local History Studies.
